The RAL
Who or what is RAL?
In 1925 in Berlin, the Reichsausschuss für Lieferbedingungen (RAL) [National Board of Supply Conditions] was founded to regulate and set the standards for quality in industry. The standardization of the ordering system was intended to simultaneously achieve higher efficiency in both industry and trade. Then, as now, guarantees of quality for each of the numerous sectors of the economy came out of voluntary agreements on industrial standards for products.
Today the RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e.V. (German Institute for Quality Assurance and Certification) is located in St. Augustin near Bonn. They observe and manage approximately 140 of these guarantees of quality (e.g. "Reine Schurwolle", "Landwirtschaftliche Markenware", and many others).
